This was the nicest casino I worked in. It is a small locals casino on the outskirts of Vegas. There was a rv park on the property. In the winter there were a lot of snowbirds getting away from Winter. The same people would come in and gamble. You got to know them, and it was pleasant. The only trouble was it was next to a big daily or weekly rooms.
The tweakers would come in picking at their arms and face. They were looking to steal buckets of coins from players at the machines. Security chased them off as soon as they came in. Before that they would bug us at the craps table. They knew if they played they could star. They game was a $3 layout. So they would scrape up $20 and play the field bet to stay alive usually as they scoped out for buckets. They smelled bad. They shed skin. They were dirty. I hated them.
As a dealer I was treated the best here. The reason the Casino Manager John had come up through the ranks. I and the other craps dealers taught his craps a decade before at Lady Luck. He was as blackjack dealer in the beginning. He got a second job at Arizona Charlies in Vegas and became a box man quickly. He went from there to Vegas World. He became a pit boss. Then Charlies got him back to Run Arizona Charlies Bouler. I didn’t get special privileges other than be a personal friend we would talk a lot. My opinion was heard
The food was good in the restaurants. The employees food was really good too. It was an exceptional cook. If you tipped you could have whatever you wanted, and it would be ready for next break. A lot of the time employees on break would go outside on the top of the Parking garage. There were a few tables and chairs. Smokers and everyone else hung out.
I dealt craps but learned blackjack, pai gau, Texas holdem, and a bunch of the carnival games as we called the specialty tables. It was cool learning all the games. The only one I could not get was roulette. I could not get the ball to stay in track. I was on a graveyard at the time. The pit boss was Tish. She was really nice. Eventually I was asked to become a dual rate.
Dual rate is a pit critter most of the time and sometimes a dealer. I switched to days. I had a blast. I learned how to mic the dice and change cards on the table. and also keep track of what people bought in as at $3000 we needed to get an ID. I enjoyed having fun with the players and dealers. I had got tired of Vegas though and after a year I left Vegas. It was for the better actually as the Casino went downhill. They eliminated Jon’s Position and put the Restaurant head in charge of everything. The eliminated the graveyard shift. They got rid of a lot of dealer and put the dual rate and pit bosses on as dealers.
I have really good memories of Arizona Charlies Boulder
