IN the 90s Buffets competed with each other to bring more people into their casino. Buffets were cheap, but good quality. A lot of them has stations: American, Mexican, Asian, and Italian, just to name a few.
Rio started off being the best Buffet early in the 90’s. This was in part locals had priority access in short line. This lasted about 3 years, and the fast line was given to high value players. The lines used to 45 minutes to be seated.
The Station chain of Casinos were for locals. They had excellent buffets. They cost $10. All you could eat. Some properties had better buffets than others. Green Vally Station had a higher money-making locals. So, they added sushi, and a wok and flat iron with you picked your meet, vegetables and sauce. In general, the food was high quality and buffet price was higher it was $18 if I remember right. the nice thing for cab and limo drivers was we had 50% off. Cops got free, drivers got the second.
Ceaser Place had a buffet called the Bacchanal. I never tried it as it was too expensive for me. Ceasars had big money players that money was meaningless.
A newer came in to steal the titles away from Rio, Palms casino had an awesome buffet. It the standard stands, but they add a Greek , and Middle East stations. Th buffet was the largest in town so getting seated was a 15 minute or less.
Every casino had buffets, but they were not up to the main players. The worst buffet was the worst. In addition to low quality food the whole casino smelled like piss. Oddly enough though had one of the finest Steak houses at the top of the building that smelled nice.
Another chain of casinos for locals popped up and had buffets equal to the Station.
I visited Vegas, about 5 years ago. I was astonished at the buffet price and people could by a three meal ticket. The corporations have ruined Vegas. Bring back private owners and the Mob
