Cab strikes

I was involved in 2 wildcat strikes. Not for conditions or wages. It was over titty bar runs. Those bars gave $20 for every dude you could bring to them. SO it you had a few loads of 2 or 3. You had a very nice night. Limo drivers could do this too. They could haul a compete bachelor party to the bars. We could fit 5 but some idiots would cram 6 in

The trouble was doormen got involved. They wanted some of the money themselves. They would sift through the cab waiting lines. Pull out anybody that wanted a free ride to the strip clubs. They would bring them to a limo. This meant they could get 1/2 as the limos gave that back for a full load.

The sifting was really bad at the RIO hotel. So, one day spontaneously everyone stopped servicing the Rio Hotel. for 4 hours it went on then the cab companies got involved and took down cab numbers and took away their shifts and put them back to fill in status. This was serious. So, Rio got their cabs service again. They did let more guys get into the cabs which was why we did a strike.

The second was at Mandalay Bay Hotel. No cab dropped off in the main entrance. There were 2 other places to drop off customer. I was driving a restricted cab which meant I could not pick up there. I let the passengers out. Out nowhere cam at Taxicab Authority ass that pull his buy and pressed the barrel to my temple. He said you will load here. I pointed out I was not allowed. He said do it now. So, I got a couple in the cab at gun point. they were freaked out. I was major pisses at having a gun to my head. I explained what was going on. I also said nothing more was going to happen. They relaxed it was normal nice cab ride.

I hate the TA to this day 30 years later
