I had a 1994 Toyota pickup. This was a very small truck. It predated all the Tacoma. It was bright red. IT had a 6-speed stick. 4 cylinders in the engine. by no means a powerful truck. I drove this truck 19 years. In the dry climate of Vegas there was no rust. The truck was built with a lot of metal so not many belts to worry about. It could get above 120mph on flat road. I found that out driving on the highway next to Area 51. Me and my buddy were looking at the strange lights in the sky doing this that were not possible. I start noticing that the signposts were coming very fast. I looked down at the speed it was pegged at 120. I took my foot off the gas; no way was I going to try to break at that speed. It took 5 minutes before it dropped below 120. We dedicided that 60 was a far more reasonable speed.
I haled 1/2 a ton of bricks in the 1/4-ton pickup. it was good that I weighed 350 and so did my buddy. The 700 pounds plus the engine countered the weight of the bricks. Even still the steering was touch and do. We got it 4 miles from the store to my buddy’s house. when we unloaded the brick the truck bounced up.
I hauled lots of people stuff helping them move. Being a big dude that was strong and having a pickup truck pretty much requires you to help people that can’t afford a moving truck. One time I let a girl named Vanessa one of Mercedes’s friend us it. She claimed to know how to drive stick. What i heard was the gears were ground.
I liked my little truck in fact I had it for 19 years. People though caused harm. A guy hits my left rear side. He says his uncle would fix it for free if I didn’t call a cop and use insurance. My stupig 23yr old mind thought this was reasonable. Turned out his uncle died. Deal was off. I drove around for 8 years. Then some dudes asked me if they could do the repair for $150. I say yes. They come over to my house and grind a put a primer coat and then they said the wanted $300. I said no and they left. A week later someone broke in and stole my radio and the backpack I used when cab driving. I put a new radio in and it gets stolen. I then fix the problem with a pull out radio. Then someone broker in and tried to hot wire it and it was obvious they didn’t know how to drive a stick. I got desperate and bought a log chain and put it through the chasis. I did that for a week then figured out a better plan. I took out the started fuse. No one would carry one of them and it was easy to take out and replace on my part. Finally the trouble stopped. My truck was safe.
I loved my red truck and have been a Toyota Fan since.
