Cab drivers have to eat on the run at fast food if it is busy. It gets old fast and you get fat. Fast food I liked though was Del Taco. It made the best fast food burritos in my opinion. I also liked Arbys for variety. Beyond that I had no preference and if I was close and hungry I’d eat anywhere.
Working the nightshift though we usually met up with fellow cabbies and went somewhere to eat. I like Chicago Casino on Sahara and the Strip. They had to best chicken al Fredo. There I ate alone a lot, but on occasion about 10 other cabbies would show up too. There were little dive casinos that had awesome food real cheap. I wish I can remember their names, but I don’t. There was a small casino on Tropicana and the railroad. We ate there a lot. We usually had 10 or more of us. We all tipped $3 and that was usually at $36 tip in a place waitress usually were given $1. There was a drive through Hawaiin spam drive through. Hawaiians love spam and this place had 30 variety of things made of spam. We didn’t repeat there.
There was a real shithole coin casino on Sahara that had awesome food that costed on average $3. The wildlife there was interesting a lot of the travesties and actors and actresses from the low-end shows. A lot of Mexicans that spoke no English were there too. As cabbies were generally considered low life too. we fit in. One day there we saw a totally ridiculous request from of the Mexicans. Their translator relayed that the guy wanted the waitress to cut his food and feed it to him. We got up and told that translator he and his guys had better leave the places or they would find out just how many cabbies were armed. They left quickly
We tried some upscale places. There was a high-end Italian place that cost in 90’s money $30 a plate. The food was good, but it wasn’t a repeat due to the cost. Then we tried downtown Golden Nugget buffet. It was not much better than the Stations casinos chain buffets. Whereas the Station buffet was $8 for us since we got half off and the Golden Nugget was $20 we never repeated. If you ever want to know where the good cheap food it ask a cabbie
