I despise California Pizza. I grew up 20 miles south east of downtown Chicago. When I moved to Vegas I searched for a good gyro, a good Italian Beef, and a good pizza. I tried a lot of pizza. They were not anywhere near what I was looking for. I could not find a gyro anywhere like I grew up. I could not find even a decent pizza, broccoli does not belong on a pizza. Italian beef I found quick. There was a Italian beef restaurant less than 2 blocks from my house
Bono’s was the Italian beef I was looking for. I found out the guy that owned shipped in the meat from Chicago every week. SO I was able to cross this off the list.
After having been in the town for 5 year a Greek cabby from the cab company we both worked at opened a real gyro spot inside a gas station. I was awesome. They were on the big spindle carved off crispy put in a pita bread, tzacatti sauce with onion and tomato. Everything I expect in a gyro. I crossed this off the list.
The pizza search went on for a long time. I think it was 7 years to find an acceptable pizza. It was in the Ellis Island casino. Just a hole in the wall pizza joint squeezed next to a Brewery. The crust was a New York style. That was acceptable. The ingredients were standard one. I like sausage, pepperoni, and green pepper pizza with heavy sauce and heavy cheese. I went there a few times a month. Wasn’t a good pizza, but the best I could find. It would fail in the Chicago land. In Pizza Hell you take what you can get.
