Vegas Cowboy

Las Vegas was a cowboy town with Casinos.

When I got there in 91 you would see people riding horses. Lots of ranches around the Strip. Downtown had some hitching posts. The politics were very Libertarian. People did what they wanted and as a long as it didn’t violate a law they were left alone.

There were rodeos. The big one was Helldirado. They ran horses down Fremont street all the way to Cashman field many miles away. Dealers wore cowboy hats then. I think 91 was the last.

The ranches were bought by developers and by 94 you didn’t see horses downtow. One of the things from that era was wearing a cowboy. If you carried it open on your hip you were fine. If you concealed it you had to have a permit and those were tough to get. I wonder if that holds true today
