Home of the low roller. Ultra-low limits. Craps was 25 cents on any bet that didn’t move. 50 cents for any bet that was moved. Movable best are in the center of felt in the come or don’t come boxes. Once they are moved up by the dealer you can put what is called Odds. Odds are a bet that is the one the only fair bets in Vegas. Usually, you are limited to 2 X the moving bet. For instant if you go on the four or ten. They odds of you winning is 50% so the odd pay double. $10 bet gets you $20 if you win. the flat or moving bet is at the disadvantaged, it only wins $1 no matter how hard it is to make it. I probably lost you all, but the allowed $50 odds on a 50-cent bet. 100X odds. the upper limit was $1000 flat bet at that you were allowed to bet $10,000 odds.
Now as a craps dealer on the overnight crew as I always was in favor of taking breaks every 20 minutes and sit my ass in the dungeon that was the break room. If we had players at 4am they were either drunks, or new dealers that worked near us the dealt 25 cent craps decided to try to stroke us (do bets that are hard for a new dealer to pay. One the crew I was everyone had at least 5 years’ experience. So, when they came along, we went into windshield wiper mode. We all could take the losers and pay the winners in about 20 seconds. We would give the dice to the shooter demand he shoot immediately if he said no, we took the dice away and got a new shooter. so, every 30 seconds the dice were in the air. We didn’t give the idiots time to bet. the crew I was on was not into customer service. They guy in the box told them is they don’t leave he was going to pick one to be his prison bitch. At that the players turned pale white, and they left. We went back to sleeping standing up
The overnight crew was motely bunch. Oldest guy that normally sat box was Walter. He was 58 and was a power lifter on steroids. He also had been in prison for attempted rape, assault and attempted murder. if he wasn’t in prison he dealt craps. Back then if you didn’t have a money crime you could deal. There was me. I am bipolar and have bad manic attacks at the time. This meant I liked to get in to players faces. I would hurt them if they went over the line. I thought I was one of scariest guys in Vegas. I might have been. so, I was manic on and off sometimes sane, sometimes not. Third dealer was Steve. he was an ex-heavyweight boxer that was on crack. Generally, the was a 4 dealer that lasted 2 weeks and left in fear of us other 3.
One time when I got physical with a player it was his fault. This idiot was through the dice at my head. Dice are near razor sharp out of the wrapper. they are checked to be the same to a 1000th of an inch. The dice the guy was through at me were new. He hit two times. the second he brought a little blood from my temple. I had told him on the first time if he it again I was going to make sure he didn’t do it a 3rd time. He got me, I took the stick which is rattan cane hard and flexible. I whipped the stick as hard as I could and caught him across the bridge of his now. If he had a smaller nose, it would have hit him across his eyeballs. I wanted him to leave. Instead, he apologized and played perfectly pleasantly thereafter.
You were allowed to gamble at the machines on your breaks. I had made friends with the change girls, and they lead me to ones that had a lot of play without paying off. I hit some good jackpots that way. I also was told about a machine that was paying out silver dollars. I ran a $20 bill and changed out 6 times to get them all. I took home $115 in silver dollars that day. I also played the $5 slots. I hit 3 $1000 jackpots on them. So I was making more gambling than I made off of dealing
